Welcome to the Murwillumbah Bus Company

Murwillumbah Bus Company (MBC) began operations on the 12/01/1993 after receiving a contract from the Department of Transport. This came about as a result of the Passenger Transport Act 1990.

Before MBC there were seven operators that had school services operating in different sections of the town. There were no town passenger services operating at the time, although a couple of operators had tried over the years with very low patronage levels, the services were cancelled. The seven operators had several meetings to discuss the formation of MBC. The company was formed with 3 operators of the original seven. The other four operators were purchased by the new company.

A new 57 seat bus was ordered from the local Body Builder and began town services 8 weeks later. Three other buses were purchased for the school work. Patronage levels on the town service were very low at the start but slowly increased as more services were introduced.
